International Grad Students
Welcome to Ann Arbor!
Honestly, it can be challenging to meet grad students from other nations. They often speak using unfamiliar idioms and refer to cultural and historical events that can be confusing and make it hard to participate fully in conversations. If English isn’t your first-language, it can be tiring to speak and read in English all day in classes and research — and then continue to speak in English in social situations too. But, it is a missed opportunity to be at U-M for 2-6 years and make no or few American friends. We hope you’ll try to connect with those involved with GradCru.
You’ll find many in GradCru will be patient and excited to meet you. International students from Austria, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Haiti, Hungary, India, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, S. Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan, and other nations have been a part of the GradCru community on the U-M campus. We hope you will, too!
International grads are welcome to be fully involved with GradCru — many do!
